OAKLAND CITY— Oakland City University announces that the Honorable Lloyd Winnecke, former Mayor of Evansville, will deliver the keynote address at the 129th commencement at the Oakland City, Indiana, campus on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
As the three-term Mayor and current chief executive officer of the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (EREP), Mr. Winnecke led Indiana’s third-largest city and continues aligning the combined interests of the public, private, and non-profit sectors to create a dynamic environment of collaboration on and trust.
His administration’s most important project was relocating the Indiana University School of
Medicine to a modern downtown campus.
Mr. Winnecke dedicated countless hours to improving the quality of life in Evansville, as evidenced by the construction of the state-of-the-art Deaconess Aquac Center, the Kinney Family Penguins of Patagonia exhibit, and the Englebrecht Carousel at Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Gardens and the Sunrise Skatepark all materialized under his watch.
OCU President Dr. Ron Dempsey stated, “At EREP, Lloyd leads the effort to create a dynamic and strong Evansville Region that supports the business community in growing the population, creating a thriving workforce, improving quality of life, and increasing opportunities for upward mobility.”
Mr. Winnecke is an Evansville native and, before moving to City Hall in 2012, spent 13 years in corporate communications and 18 years in television news. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Evansville. He married Carol McClintock, a highly successful resident real estate agent with FC Tucker Emge Realtors. He is also a proud father of one daughter, Danielle, a social worker in Tucson, AZ, and an even prouder grandfather to 16-year-old Holden and 12-year-old Oliver.
