SELLERSBURG— On Wednesday, April 17, the Indiana State Police held an awards ceremony in Indianapolis to publicly recognize its employees’ achievements, sacrifices, and dedication across the state. Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter presented the awards in person.
Trooper Brandon Love – DUI Life Award (#1 in State)
Trooper Brandon Love received the Indiana State Police DUI Life Award for his outstanding commitment to eliminating impaired drivers from Indiana’s roads. Trooper Love made 119 DUI arrests, ranking him first in the state.
Master Trooper Detective Scott Stewart – ISP Outstanding Criminal Investigation Award
Detective Scott Stewart lives and works in the Sellersburg District and is assigned to the ISP Special Investigations Division – Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce. The department recognized Detective Stewart with its top investigations award for his outstanding work as the lead investigator in an ICAC case involving child molestation, sexual misconduct, and child pornography with multiple victims. As a result of his work, two Jefferson County men were charged and sentenced to prison for child molestation and sexual misconduct.
Master Trooper Philip Hensley – Trooper of the District Award
Master Trooper Philip Hensley received the 2023 Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post Trooper of the District award. This prestigious award is bestowed annually upon the trooper who exemplifies integrity, professionalism, and a comprehensive work ethic. The Sellersburg Post command staff selected Trooper Hensley to recognize his dedication to his duties, including traffic and criminal enforcement, community engagement, instructor ratings, and special assignments. As a result of Master Trooper Hensley’s focus on crash reduction, 1694 traffic citations and warnings were issued throughout various problem areas in the district. Trooper Hensley arrested 76 criminal defendants and conducted numerous criminal investigations. Master Trooper Hensley is also a dedicated member of the department’s honor guard team and an emergency vehicle operations instructor. Trooper Hensley participated in 17 lengthy honor guard details and spent several weeks instructing new academy recruits in emergency vehicle operations, all while leading the district in enforcement activity.
Trooper Justin Mears – DUI Life Award
Trooper Justin Mears received the Indiana State Police DUI Life Award for his outstanding commitment to eliminating impaired drivers from Indiana’s roads. Trooper Mears made 101 DUI arrests and was ranked in the top 5 for ISP DUI arrests. This year marks the 8th year Trooper Mears has been ranked in the top 5 DUI arrests.
