Wilma Mae (Beavers) Smith, of Medora, passed away peacefully in the late afternoon of April 18, 2024, at home with her family by her side. She was 78 years old.
Wilma entered this life on April 23, 1945, in Ft. Ritner, Indiana. She was the daughter of Thurman and Juanita (Robbins) Beavers. She attended Tunnelton Community Schools. On January 13, 1961, Wilma was united in marriage to Leland Smith. This union of over 54 years was blessed with two sons, Larry and Dennis. Larry preceded her on August 22, 1977, and Leland preceded her on August 16, 2015.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma. She was a cook for Medora Community Schools for over ten years, and then she went to work at the Hoosier Christian Village. She earned her Certified Nursing Aide certificate and went on to work many years at the Village until her husband, Leland, got ill. She retired and stayed home to care for him until his passing.
Wilma loved to sew. She made many quilts and blankets for her family to enjoy. She loved playing in her flower beds. When the weather was nice, she was always outside, tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her son Dennis Smith and his wife Pam from Medora, grandchildren Dennis Smith and his wife Megan of Bedford, Brittney N. Vetter and her husband Brandon of Seymour, Dillan Smith of Medora, and Makenna Smith of Medora, and three great-grandchildren, Conner Lee, Victoria, and Kobie, her sisters, Wanda Hash of Bloomington, Kati Nicholson and her husband Greg, of Salem, Betty Cochrane of Medora, Barbara Lambert of Medora, Virginia Milligan, and her husband Harvey of Medora, Sarah Ritter and her husband Phil of Bloomington, Iva Tincher and her husband Don of Mitchell, Lisa Wischmeier, and her better half Steve Sturgill of Leesville, Sherry Myers and her husband Brad of Leesville, Rita Reynolds and her husband Tony of Medora, and Alice Thompson and her husband, Tim of Leesville.
She was also preceded by her brother Henry Beavers.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Hague Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Proctor Cemetery- Dixon Chapel.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at Hague Funeral Home. A remembrance fund has been established in Wilma’s name through Hague Funeral Home.
