DEARBORN CO. – On Monday, the former treasurer of the Aurora Farmers Fair was arrested on a felony theft charge after an investigation by Indiana State Police Investigators into multiple unauthorized purchases made since 2022 using farmers fair funds.
The investigation by Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post began in March of this year when the fair board reported money missing from the Aurora Farmers Fair Bank Accounts. During the investigation, it was determined that the board treasurer during that timeframe, Scott A. Petty, 54, Moores Hill, Indiana, used the Farmers Fair credit card and bank account to pay for personal vacations, bills, car payments, and other miscellaneous items. Petty allegedly spent over $70,000 of the farmers’ fair funds for his gain.Â
After the investigation, the case was presented to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for review. As a result, Petty was charged with one count of theft of over $50,00, a Level 5 felony.Â
Petty turned himself in at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center Monday, where he was incarcerated on the charge pending an initial appearance in court.
