COLUMBUS — Two Columbus residents were arrested after police found drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.
According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, 25-year-old Cheyanne George and 36-year-old David Swift were arrested after deputies found meth and a Glock 43 handgun.
On Wednesday, at 11:25 p.m., Deputy Max Medina stopped a green Pontiac on U.S. 31 for an equipment violation.
Police learned that Cheyanne George of Westport was wanted on an active warrant, and she was detained. She had a smoking device with burnt residue in her pants pockets.
Deputy Dylan Prather and his canine partner Frizko arrived to assist. Frizko alerted police to possible drugs in the vehicle.
Police then noticed David Swift, of Franklin, reaching under the front passenger seat. As deputies attempted to detain Swift, he resisted. During the struggle with three police officers, two plastic baggies fall to the ground. Swift then quickly tried to step on the bags. They contained crystal meth.
A Glock 43 handgun was reportedly found underneath the front passenger seat by deputies.
Other occupants of the vehicle told deputies that when Deputy Medina turned on his emergency lights, Swift removed the handgun from his person and asked if they had any felonies. One of the occupants stated that Swift threw the handgun at her in an attempt to make her take possession of it, however she threw it back due to her previous felony convictions.
Swift and George were both transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. Swift is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement, and disorderly conduct.
George was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail after receiving medical clearance at Columbus Regional Hospital. During the booking process, a container filled with brown wax was found concealed in her undergarments. George stated that the substance was THC marijuana wax.
George was charged with obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and an outstanding warrant.
