BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested early Sunday, April 28, after Bedford Police Sgt. Faheem Bade observed a moped traveling west on 16th Street swerving in and out of its travel lane. The vehicle also had no headlights on.
Sgt. Bade initiated a traffic stop at 2:47 a.m. at 16th and S Streets.
Sgt. Bade spoke to the driver, 26-year-old Levi Drouillard, who smelled of alcohol.
Drouillard told police he didn’t have a driver’s license or a Class B endorsement. He admitted he had just left a bar.
Officer Nick Crulo arrived to assist.
Drouillard failed several field sobriety tests. During the encounter with Droouillard, he had laughed uncontrollably.
Police asked Drouillard if he had taken any illegal substances because of his behavior. He refused to answer, just smiled.
Drouillard was then detained. He called a friend to get the moped. But the friend said he wasn’t sure he could come to get the vehicle. Drouillard became agitated and started yelling and calling Sgt. Bade derogatory names as he was walked to Officer Crulo’s police vehicle.
A baggie of marijuana was found in the storage compartment of the moped, along with a smoking device with burnt marijuana inside.
A warrant was issued for a blood draw. Drouillard was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital after the blood draw. Once medically cleared, he was transported to jail on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI Endangerment, and obstruction of justice.
Once in the sallyport of the jail, Officer Crulo heard something hit the metal window guard and found a smoking device Drouillard had thrown from the vehicle.
