Teen detained after hitting sibling and mother

BEDFORD – A Bedford teen is facing two counts of domestic battery and escape from unlawful detention after Bedford Police Officer Stewart Ratcliff responded to a home in the 2000 block of F Street on Monday.

When Officer Ratcliff arrived at 6:21 p.m., the teen’s mother reported her 14-year-old daughter had been hitting her and her 6-year-old sister.

The mother reported the teen also left the house and ran under the carport, violating her home detention.

The mother reported the teen and her sister had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical. The teen grabbed the younger daughter, and she suffered a scratch on her wrist. The older daughter then lay on the couch and attempted to kick the other children in the house. She then went out the back door. When she returned inside, the fighting continued, and the mother attempted to separate the children. The teen then grabbed her mother by the neck, and her son had to pull her off. The teen threw a hard plastic toy at her, striking her in the left eyebrow.

The teen then fled the house and went under the carport.

Officer Taylor Daugherty placed the teen in handcuffs and transported her to the Bedford Police Department. Juvenile probation was contacted. The teen was then released to her mother with a promise to appear in court on April 30th at 1:00 p.m.
