“Our nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now. Adoptions have slowed while a surge in owner surrenders due to families facing economic and housing challenges has left tens of thousands of highly adoptable pets desperate to find homes,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Our Spring National ‘Empty the Shelters’ will support the adoption of thousands of pets nationwide, helping shelters in this critical time. Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need.”

The Greene County Humane Society has participated in several of these past events and is always a great
way to help get pets into forever homes. The Greene County Humane Society is open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 7 p.m. on Fridays. All adoptions require an approved application, so applying in advance is recommended.

Beast must have a home with a fenced-in yard. Beast is timid. Once he gets to know you, he will always want your attention and be at your side. Adoption fees include microchip, spay/neuter, and all vaccines. Flea and tick preventatives are up to date for a month.

Greene County Humane Society President Kegan Inman says, “This event could not possibly come at a more needed time. We have been running over capacity for several months and desperately need adoptions. We hope this event can raise some attention for our animals and encourage more families to explore adoption. Our longer resident, a dog named Beast, has been in the shelter for over 13 months. He is an amazing dog who came to us as a feral puppy. He has really opened up but still can be a shy boy. He is just patiently waiting for the right adopter to come along, someone who understands his needs and is willing to give him the patience and continued work that he requires.”

BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This lifesaving event began in 2016 to encourage more families to choose adoption. More than 226,000 pets have found loving homes since its inception. “Empty the Shelters” is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with 742 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees.BISSELL Pet Foundation and Greene County Humane Society urge families to research the pet they are interested in adopting and the adoption requirements.
