BEDFORD – Three teens were detained on charges of resisting arrest by fleeing and criminal mischief after Bedford Police officers responded to Thornton Park on Q Street on Tuesday, April 30.
When Officer Jones arrived at 6:38 p.m., he spoke to a Parks Department employee who reported that the teens had knocked over trash cans and scattered trash throughout the park pavilion.
The male juvenile also kicked a vehicle, causing damage to the rear driver’s bumper.
The juveniles left the pavilion and were last seen walking in the alley toward 17th and P Streets.
Other officers were alerted to look for the juveniles.
Officer Jones spotted the male juvenile and two of the females. He turned on his overhead lights, and the teens ran south down P Street towards 18th Street. They continued running south on 18th Street between P Street and Washington Avenue.
Officer Jones stopped the male teen in the alleyway in the 1000 block of O Street. Shortly after, he detained the two females walking down Washington Avenue from 18th Street. Officers Jones and Daughtery transported the three teens back to Thornton Park, and the park employee identified them as the teens who had caused the damage.
All three teens were detained on charges of criminal recklessness and resisting arrest by fleeing. The teens were also issued no-trespass orders, which prevented them from returning to the park.
The teens were transported to the Bedford Police Department. The females, ages 13 and 14, were released to their parents or guardians with a promise to appear in court on May 15 at 9:00 a.m. The 15-year-old male juvenile was placed on house arrest.
