ELLETTSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence swept the doubles while posting a 4-1 victory over Edgewood during girls high school tennis action on Thursday.
Meryl Klein and Emma Conover won a tough three-set battle at No.2 as the Stars improved to 6-2 in dual matches.
Conover and Klein combined for a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win over Wren Millick and Maris Holmes, while Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge stopped Sophia Kapperman and Deep Patel 6-1, 6-2 at No.1.
“I’ll focus on No.2 doubles,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “They came out firing and then, as sometimes happens, they let up a bit and Edgewood came back firing. For these two girls, with very little experience, to fight that hard was awesome. So proud of them.”
In singles, BNL’s Ava McKinney rolled past Ellie Jackson 6-3, 6-0 at No.2, while Nadia Anderson dominated Boston Chambers 6-0, 6-1 at No.3.
“These girls deserve this win,” Stigall said. “They each played so hard, and they were pretty down after the poor showing at Seymour, so this was so needed. All of these girls work hard and want to win.”
BNL will compete in the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament next week, awaiting the Jeffersonville-New Albany winner on Wednesday.
