BEDFORD – Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer’s main job is planning for emergencies that might strike the county, such as flooding, tornadoes, hazardous materials, earthquakes, terrorism, multiple casualty incidents, and cyber-attacks.
Recently, she conducted a tabletop and full-skill exercise to prepare for an earthquake, she told the commissioners Monday morning.
The event was held at Mitchell Manor on Thursday, May 2. Participants included first responders, police, ambulance crews, firefighters, and students from the COSMOS Health Science program at Mitchell High School.
“We had numerous agencies involved, ” added Luchauer. We turned over beds and used cardboard to simulate drywall falling. It was a very active situation with everyone involved. We got a lot of good feedback. That feedback helps improve response and actions during an emergency.”
