ISP recovers stolen vehicle and driver

MITCHELL – Mitchell Police Officer Britten arrested a Bedford woman on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, after he began investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Cherry Street.

When Officer Britten arrived at 12:20 a.m., the owners reported their 2015 black GMC Terrain had been stolen from their driveway. The owners believed 47-year-old Dara Hagamier had taken the vehicle.

The owners told police they discovered the missing vehicle after they received a call from a family member who said they saw Hagamier driving the vehicle in Mitchell.

One of the owners said they located items on their porch that they believed belonged to Hagamier. Those items included three cell phones, a tablet, a speaker, and makeup. They said they were acquainted with Hagamier because they had mutual friends.

One of the owners admitted she had accidentally left the keys in the vehicle.

Officer Britten then received information from the Indiana State Police that the stolen vehicle had been involved in an accident in the 400 block of Mystic Lake Road. The driver of the stolen car had driven through the caller’s yard. ISP Troopers Wagner and Gillespie placed the driver, Hagamier, in custody.

Hagamier refused to cooperate with police and refused to give them her name. Police believed Hagamier was under the influence of drugs because she was making irrational and inconsistent statements.

She was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw. While at the hospital, Hagamier continued to be uncooperative.

Hagamier was transported to jail on charges of theft of a vehicle. ISP charged Hagamier with being a habitual traffic offender and refusal to identify herself.

While at the jail, Hagamier continued to be combative with the jail staff.
