LAWRENCE CO.- It was a close race for County Commission District 2 between incumbent Dustin Gabhart and Jeff McKnight. McKnight won by 72 votes, defeating Gabhart. McKnight received 2,521 votes or 50.73%, with Gabhart receiving 2,449 or 49.28%.
“Thank you to each and every individual who played a role in making this campaign successful,” said McKnight. “Your contributions have been invaluable, and I am truly grateful for your support. Now, on to the Fall.”
The County Council at large had eight candidates bidding for three seats. The winners were Scott Smith, with 17.59%, or 2,318 votes; Rick Butterfield, who received 16.09%, or 2,120 votes; and Julie Johnson Hewetson, with 15.26%, or 2,011 votes.
Martha Arnold Turner beat current Auditor Paula Stewart. Turner received 52.68% of the votes, with 2,534, while Stewart received 2,276, or 47.32%.

Another exciting race was for the seat of precinct committeeman Marion 6, in which Dustin Gabhart and Henry Shetler received 50% of the votes. Lawrence County Republican Chair Heath Hawkins said Tuesday night he would confirm the results on Wednesday and take the necessary next steps.
