Argument over full litter box lands man in jail on domestic battery charge

OOLITIC – An Oolitic man was arrested on Friday, May 3, after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a domestic fight in the 200 block of Hoosier Avenue.

A female reported her husband had kicked her in the stomach while wearing his work boots. While speaking with the dispatcher, the call was disconnected. When the dispatcher called back, no one would answer.

Michael Robinson

Lawrence County Police Department Deputy Thomas Porter responded. The woman told him 57-year-old Michael Robinson had left in a white Ford 150.

The officer said the woman suffered redness and swelling to her abdomen, leaving a boot print on her skin.

The woman told police that the two were arguing over the full litter box. She had asked Robinson to assist by cleaning out the litter box, which made him mad. He said, “You need to stop lecturing me.” He then kicked her in the stomach. The woman said Robinson had pushed her in the past, and she “didn’t want to be treated that way anymore” and requested to file charges. The woman signed a battery affidavit.

The woman was concerned, and an IU LifeLine ambulance was requested. She was checked out at the scene but refused further medical treatment.

The woman was told to call 911 if Robinson returned home.

At 8:35 p.m., the woman called 911. Deputies Kenton Carter and Porter returned to the home. The woman was outside, sitting in her sister’s vehicle. Officers entered the house and found Robinson sitting on the couch. He was detained on a charge of domestic battery.

Robinson told police the two had gotten into an argument, and he got mad and tried to kick a pizza box out of the woman’s hand and missed and kicked her.
