Red Devils walk past Stars 10-0 in HHC consolation

BNL’s Walker Ward and head coach Jeff Callahan discuss strategy. The Stars dropped a 10-0 decision to Jeffersonville on Friday.

JEFFERSONVILLE – For the second time this season, Jeffersonville conquered Bedford North Lawrence as the Red Devils decked the Stars 10-0 in six innings in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament during high school baseball action on Friday.

The Red Devils (10-10) took advantage of 10 walks issued by BNL pitchers. Jeffersonville also posted a 7-3 home win over the Stars on April 19.

Jeffersonville went to work early, scoring a run in the first (a walk, a BNL error and Jaret Phillips RBI single) and second (Ryan Crawford chased home a run with a ground out), then broke it open with a four-run third on two bases-loaded walks, a sacrifice fly and Crawford single.

The Devils triggered the mercy-rule finish with a four-run sixth. After loading the bases with one out, Lane Jaggers singled, and the final two runs were forced home by walks.

Jaggers had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs for the Devils. Kline Woodward was 2 for 3 for the Stars.

BNL (13-8) will visit Jennings County on Monday.
