Hoosier National Forest—Join the Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee and the Hoosier National Forest for a Hike and Learn event on June 1st, celebrating National Trails Day.
This free event will occur from 9 a.m. until Noon at the Youngs Creek Trailhead, just south of Paoli on County Road 50 West in the Hoosier National Forest.
Stop by anytime in the morning for activity booths and giveaways for all ages centered on water quality and forest health. Guided nature hikes will occur at 10 a.m. with Carla Striegel-Winner for watershed ecology/nature and at 11 a.m. with Emily Finch for plant ID. Youths that attend one of the hikes or finish a scavenger hunt and complete their event checklist will receive a free fishing pole.
Event directions: From Paoli, go south on State Road 37. Turn right onto Beech Grove Road and continue 0.9 miles. Turn left onto County Road 50 W, drive 1.2 miles, and the shelter house will be on your left.
