BEDFORD— On Friday, May 17th, the Little Theater of Bedford put on its second Friday night showing of the hit musical “Fiddler on the Roof” as it enters its final weekend.
This musical, directed by Daniel Baker, has been extremely successful for the theater. The show has been getting positive buzz and excellent turnout.
When asked about his passion for this particular musical, director Daniel Baker remarked: “I saw it (Fiddler on the Roof) as a seventh grader; the high school did it. My brother was in it, and that was my first exposure to it, and it was the first time I’d seen a show at the high school. It was a big stage, big show, and it just drew me in. I wanted to direct it ever since, now here we are, ten or fifteen plus years later. It’s just as awesome as I remember it. These guys are phenomenal. It’s a great story, it’s set back in 1905, but I think you can relate to any of these characters. If you put any of these characters in a modern-day society like Bedford, you’re going to find these characters in every town. It’s very relatable.” Baker has been involved with the Little Theater of Bedford since 2009, calling it his “home away from home.”
One woman from North Daviess County who came to see the show offered her thoughts to WBIW, saying, “For a small venue with a lot of young people, it’s very well done.” Children in the audience danced, laughed, and cried during the show.
The show is an emotion-filled play about a poor Jewish milkman who seeks marry off his daughters, and along the way learns to challenge old traditions. It features a truly remarkable performance by Tom Bostic as Teyve, who shows extraordinary vocal and emotional range. Other highlights are Alida Bingham as Golde, and Katie Upham as Hodel.
There are two shows left currently: one on Saturday, May 18th, and one on Sunday, May 19th.
