BEDFORD—The Lawrence County Commissioners voted Tuesday morning to pass a resolution and enter into an intergovernmental agreement to seek funding for rural transportation.
This will allow Lawrence County to seek grant funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration.
On behalf of Lawrence County Commissioners, the commissioners voted to allow Monroe County Commissioners to make the necessary certification and assurance to apply for the grant. The Monroe County Commissioners are authorized to execute the grant contract agreement on behalf of Area 10 Agency on Aging – Rural Transit.
The funds will then be split between the counties.
In other business:
The commissioners voted to reappoint Vicky Schlegel to the Mitchell Community Public Library Board of Trustees.
The commissioners also agreed to look into a contract with Espy Services for a Telecom Expense Review. The company finds errors and overcharges in bills.
Commissioner President Wally Branham said the county had used this service before.
“Their fee is 50 percent; if they find a dollar, they take 50 cents, and we get 50 cents,” he added. “If they find no problems, there is no fee due to Espy Services.”
The commissioners will have a contract available at the next meeting on June 4.
