BEDFORD – Police arrested a Williams man after finding more than 25 grams of meth in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Thomas Reynolds, 67, Williams, is facing a felony charge of possession of meth over ten grams.
On Friday, May 17, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Andrew Tillett was on patrol north on H Street when he spotted a gold 2007 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Reynolds. Police believed Reynolds had left a home in Leesville where he purchased meth.
Detectives Michael Williams and Christopher Griggs were at the intersection of 15th Street and H Street in unmarked police vehicles. Detective Griggs and Williams advised they observed the gold Chevy Malibu turn from H Street onto 15th Street without using a turn signal.
Deputy Tillett followed the vehicle to the intersection of M and 15th Streets and initiated a traffic stop.
Reynolds was informed he had failed to use his turn signal. Deputy Tillett requested his registration and license and proceeded to issue Reynolds a warning for the traffic violation.
Reynolds lied to police and told them he had come from Heltonville. Police knew it was a lie because Detective Giggs was at State Road 446 and US 50 East and spotted Reynolds traveling on US 50 from Leesville.
Deputy Kenton Carter arrived on the scene with his canine who alerted police to drugs in the vehicle. Reynolds admitted there was meth hidden underneath the floormat on the driver’s side floorboard. Police found a baggy containing 25.79 grams of meth.
Reynolds was detained without incident and given a written warning for failure to use his turn signal.
The vehicle was released from the scene after a friend of Reynold’s came to pick it up.
