Nov. 1, 1979 – May 18, 202
Johnnie “John” Grubb IV, 44, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, in Bedford.
Born November 1, 1979, he was the son of Johnnie and Melissa Deckard Grubb. John was a self-employed mechanic. He loved spending time with his kids, whether it was in the garage, teaching them to drive anything from power wheels to go-carts to diesel, making funny video calls, taking short trips to see something interesting, making a simple grocery trip a funny experience, or teaching them how something worked. John’s world was his babies, and while he taught them some independence and frugalness, he also loved, protected, and took care of them with all he had.
John was incredibly intelligent. He was the go-to guy in his circle for information and help with problem-solving across a wide subject area, but cars were his passion. He was well-known for being able to get to the problem of anything with a motor and wheels, and he was happiest with his tools in his hand, fixing things.
John was justifiably proud of his garage and home, where he spent most of his time working, playing, and maintaining for himself and his family. He was a natural charmer and comedian who loved putting a smile on people’s faces, friends or strangers. While he was very protective of his family and home, anyone he called a friend always knew they were welcome.
John was a once-in-a-lifetime, unique man who can never be replaced and was gone far too soon.
His fiancé and children will carry him with them for the rest of their days, along with his many stories, and in this way, John will live forever with them.
Surviving to cherish Johnnie’s memory are his son, Alex Burris; daughter, Samairah Harris; mother, Melissa Deckard; sister, Debbie Grubb-Cadwell; and fiancé, Ashley Bauer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Grubb, and brother, Daniel Grubb. Cremation was chosen, and there will be no services at this time.
Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford has been entrusted with Johnnie’s care.
