BEDFORD— A warrant was issued for the arrest of a Bloomington woman after a man came to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, April 21, to report his ex-girlfriend had been threatened by his ex-girlfriend with a hammer.
Karen Guilford, 51, Bloomington, intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness
According to Lawrence County Police Department Deputy Christian James, the man reported visiting his son at a home in the 1000 block of East Powerline Road on Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 p.m. He said they were all watching Thunder over Louisville on television when Guilford entered the room and began “talking out of her mind.” He went upstairs to continue watching the show on another television, and Guilford followed him. She continued talking, and he told her to shut up, and she left the room. He then heard Guilford hitting things with a hammer. She entered the room and took two swings at him with the hammer. The man left the home.
Police spoke to witnesses at the home. They told police Guilford had been drinking and was “overly intoxicated and had been on a “steady buzz.” The witness told police that the male had told Guilford to shut up, and this made Guilford mad, and she retrieved a hammer. The witness said Guilford “snapped” and took two swings at the male. The witness said Guilford broke a desk with the hammer. Pictures of the broken desk were taken by police.
The witness told police Guilford was bipolar and had paranoid schizophrenia. She also was not sleeping well and had an alcohol problem.
The witness said Guilford’s adult son has special needs, and Guilford is both verbally and physically abusive to him. Adult Protective Services was alerted.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant for Guilford’s arrest was issued.
