Bedford Altrusa Club continues to provide community support through projects and volunteering

BEDFORD – The Monday, May 13, Bedford Altrusa meeting, led by President Bill Barnes, was held at the Southland Church of Christ annex.

Mary Barnes explained the revised new member process. She and Kathleen Row also recapped the recent District Six conference they attended.

Club members took 26 magazines to each of the six area nursing homes.

Sara Kern read a thank you from Susie Turner and IDES.

Tammy Harrell invited members to sort bottle caps on Thursdays to help with the club’s ongoing caps-to-benches project.

Fanny Lee asked for volunteers to work at the WQRK Senior Fair on May 22. She also asked for help placing flags on veterans’ graves. Becky Bailey will coordinate.

Susie Kern and Kelly Myers are pleased with the donations the club received to supply the little free library in Avoca with books.

Sara Kern suggested the club sponsor a Brain Games team for $250. The proceeds will benefit the Lawrence County Museum. She will submit a project request form.

Becky’s Place asked Susie Turner to assist with cleaning out and organizing their donations. If the club votes to approve, she will co-chair the project with Fannie Lee.

The members voted to eliminate meals at meetings. Those who wish to eat should bring their meal.

Membership dues are to be paid to Sara Kern by June 1.

The next meeting will be June 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Southland Church of Christ annex.
