ISP K9 ‘Tora’ retires

PENDLETON- Indiana State Police K9 Tora has officially retired. She has faithfully served our community for seven years, working with her partner, Senior Trooper Tom Ratliff.

K9 Tora, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois was selected as a dual-purpose K9 for the Pendleton District in 2017. K9 Tora and her handler, Senior Trooper Tom Ratliff, completed the 12-week school conducted by ISP K9 Master Trainers and gained a dual-purpose certification including obedience, narcotics detection, tracking, apprehension, handler protection, article searches, area searches, and building searches. 

K9 Tora impacted the community during demonstrations at local schools and community events. She demonstrated her skills in drug recognition while educating the community on how K9s keep our community safe. Tora’s services were utilized and trusted by local and federal agencies on 536 occasions.

Throughout her career, K9 Tora compiled:

  • 705 Narcotics searches.
  • 288 Narcotics arrests.
  • 31 pounds of methamphetamine.
  • 172 pounds of marijuana.
  • 10 pounds of heroin.
  • 1 pound of fentanyl.
  • $18,000 United States Currency.
  • 139 other criminal arrests.
  • 32 tracks.
  • 52 building searches.
  • 35 area searches.
  • 233 Perimeter security details.
  • 82 Warrant services.

K9 Tora never missed work during her seven-year career due to injury or illness. She will live the rest of her life in retirement chasing balls instead of bad guys at home with the Ratliff family.
