FDA recalls thousands of cases of Fiji water

INDIANA— The Food and Drug Administration says a bottled water producer recalls thousands of cases shipped nationwide due to multiple issues.

On May 23, the FDA announced that Natural Waters of Viti Limited is voluntarily recalling more than 78,000 cases of  Fiji Natural Artesian Water due to manganese and three bacterial genera. The water was sent to the state of Washington before being distributed nationally to customers. The bottles were sold exclusively online via Amazon.com.

The water cases contain 24 bottles of water apiece, meaning about 1,884,792 individual bottles are being recalled. More details on the recalled cases can be found below:

  • Case UPC Code –  6 32565 00004 3
  • Bottle UPC Code – 6 32565 00001 2
  • Production dates – Nov. 11, 2023; Nov. 12, 2023; Nov. 13, 2023; Nov. 24, 2023 and Nov. 25, 2023

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports manganese as a trace element needed in small amounts in our food and water. However, exposure to more than the usual requirement of manganese can lead to brain damage.

Customers who received the recalled products were notified directly and all products have been reclaimed. If you have any of the recalled bottles of water at home, do not drink the water. Return it to where you bought the product for a refund. If you have any questions, contact the FIJI Water hotline at 1-866-406-4149.
