SEYMOUR – In the evening hours of Sunday, May 26, Seymour Police officers conducted a traffic stop, which resulted in the arrests of two individuals on drug-related felonies.
Officers received information that a maroon Mazda may be in the area of 9th and North Ewing Streets and the driver was a habitual driver offender and possibly under the influence of illicit substances.
Once in the area, officers observed a vehicle matching the description and developed probable cause for a traffic stop. Upon being stopped, patrolmen noted that the driver, identified as Luke Newkirk, 33, of Seymour, attempted to switch seats with his passenger, Ryanne Snodgrass, 36, also of Seymour. Officers said Newkirk was a habitual traffic offender and didn’t have a driver’s license.
While attempting to take Newkirk into custody, a brief struggle took place during which Newkirk tried to ditch a plastic bag containing a substance that later tested positive for Fentanyl. During a search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 2.5 ounces (70 plus grams) of methamphetamine, scales, and paraphernalia. Police say Ryanne attempted to hide a syringe and drug paraphernalia while being transported to jail.
Luke Newkirk was arrested on charges of being a habitual traffic offender, dealing meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of a narcotic drug, obstruction of justice, and resisting law enforcement.
Ryanne Snodgrass is facing charges of dealing meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of a narcotic drug, and obstruction of justice.
