State Police sergeant promoted to lieutenant

INDIANA – The Superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Douglas G. Carter, has announced Sergeant William Brent Cox’s promotion to Lieutenant. Lt. Cox is assigned to the Indiana State Police Training Division and will serve as the Commander of the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.

Cox, originally from Fishers, Indiana, graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School in 1993. On April 13, 2003, he graduated from the 63rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed a Trooper assigned to the Indiana State Police Post in Indianapolis, where he served for five years. 

In 2008, Cox completed a rigorous selection process and was selected to serve as a team member for the Indiana State Police SWAT Team. He stayed in that position until January 2020, when he was promoted to Sergeant and served as a Field Training supervisor within the Training Division. In this role, he oversaw the Department’s defensive tactics program. In 2022, he transferred to the Recruit Academy as an Assistant Commander.

Cox holds instructor certifications for defensive tactics, firearms, and tasers.

He and his wife are residents of Madison County.
