INDIANA – The Salvation Army’s inaugural Clays for a Cause event is just around the corner, marking the beginning of summer camp season for the organization and hundreds of Hoosier children.
Sporting clays enthusiasts and first-timers will gather at the Indiana Gun Club to enjoy a day of friendly competition while raising funds to send at-risk and disadvantaged kids from across the state to Hidden Falls Camp this summer. Clays for a Cause centers around a 12-station sporting clays course where participants will test their skills and enjoy the great outdoors for a good cause. The morning will start with coffee and donuts, courtesy of Parlor Doughnuts. It will conclude with a hot barbecue lunch and an awards program emceed by native Hoosier Creek Stewart, known worldwide as a wilderness survival expert, author, and television host. Stewart will also operate a pop-up shop at the Indiana Gun Club throughout the event, open to Clays for a Cause participants and the public.
The event occurs on Friday, May 31, with check-in from 7:30 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. The shooting set will begin on the course at 9:00 a.m. Lunch and awards will occur around noon, with a silent auction throughout the morning.
The Indiana Gun Club is located just northeast of Indianapolis in Hamilton County. Its address is 14926 E. 113th Street between Fishers and Fortville. Indiana Gun Club was established in 1954 and hosted many of the state’s biggest skeet and sporting clays events on its 77-acre property. In addition to the 12-station sporting clays course that will be used for Clays for a Cause, the club also has four voice-activated trap ranges and five skeet ranges open to the public year-round.
Proceeds from the day’s events will help The Salvation Army offer at-risk and disadvantaged children from across Indiana the experience of a lifetime: a week at Hidden Falls Camp this summer. The 700-acre Hidden Falls Camp is located in beautiful southern Indiana in a landscape that offers rolling hills and wooded trails, rustic log cabins for campers, and a wide range of traditional camp activities. Kids at Hidden Falls Camps enjoy swimming, archery, fishing, arts and crafts, high ropes courses, mountain biking, and zip lining. Themed camps each week immerse campers in the arts, STEAM, sports, and even the challenge of “roughing it” with outdoor survival skills.
