ISP trooper spots and arrests habitual traffic violator

MITCHELL—A Mitchell man was arrested after Indiana State Trooper Ben Burris spotted a vehicle traveling north of 5th Street near Hancock Avenue and learned the driver was a habitual traffic offender.

The trooper was currently working another traffic stop when he noticed the vehicle. He quickly completed that stop and attempted to catch up with the driver of the 2000 silver Pontiac Vibe. He found the driver pulling into the parking lot of Persimmon Park Apartments.

Daniel Gilbert

The driver was 36-year-old Daniel Gilbert. Trooper Burris approached Gilbert as he was stepping out of his vehicle. Gilbert told the trooper he was just getting groceries and coming back home. Gilbert told the trooper he knew he was a habitual offender and shouldn’t be driving.

Gilbert was detained on a charge of being a habitual traffic offender and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
