St. Vincent Thrift Store will remain closed due to construction taking longer than expected

BEDFORD – According to Dolly Sowder, secretary of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the construction of the St. Vincent Thrift Store is taking longer than expected.

“Our opening has been delayed,” she said in an email. “We will reopen as soon as repairs are completed.”

The store was closed after Bedford Fire Department firefighters battled a blaze at the store. The fire was reported at 12:31 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

The store is located at 920 I Street. Firefighters from all three fire stations responded.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Bedford Police Department are investigating the cause of the blaze.

“Our trucks arrived within three minutes of the call. The investigator with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted, and our firefighters did not leave the scene until 4:21 am,” said Bedford Fire Chief Luke Pinnick.

The store’s surveillance video captured a group of males before the fire was reported.

“We are investigating the incident and collecting all available evidence before accusing someone(s) of arson,” said Chief Terry Moore.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bedford Police Department at 812-275-3311.
