Obituary: Vicky Lynn Hill

October 25, 1948 – May 31, 2024

Vicky Lynn Hill was born on October 25, 1948, the second child of Carl and Pauline (Holbert) Chaney in Bedford, IN. She first married David Thompson on May 10, 1969, and he passed away on April 6, 1994. She then married Arthur Hill on September 14, 2002. She lost her best friend and soul mate on April 7, 2010, after a two ½ year battle with cancer.

Vicky graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1967. She started her 36-year career at NSWC Crane in 1969.

Vicky had many passions to which she dedicated herself. One that she loved dearly was the Phi Beta Psi sorority, which raised money for cancer services and research. She had lost her husband, mother, brother, father, and grandmother to cancer. Vicky had held several titles within the sorority before going inactive in 2014. She also was regularly active in the Lawrence County Democratic Women’s Caucus and served as an election poll worker.

Before Art’s illness, Vicky and Art traveled across the US, taking at least 2 to 3 trips yearly. Vicky’s children and her grandchildren were her life and she loved them dearly. She was always their biggest fan and cheerleader. She never met a stranger and had so many close friends and people she loved. She also loved to shop and would proudly describe herself as a purseaholic.

She is survived by her two beautiful daughters, Sarah Reynolds (husband, Travis) and Leslie Schmitt (husband, Rich) of Bedford; two stepsons, Jason Hill (wife Christy) of Westfield and Anthony Hill (wife, Betsy) of Jackson, TN and former daughter in law, Ivy Walsh (husband Bob) of Yorktown, IN. She dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her grandchildren. Noah High, Isabelle High, Hayden Reynolds, Grant Reynolds, Owen Schmitt, and Tylor Schmitt. Austin Hill of Jackson, TN; Olivia Hill of Yorktown, IN; Eliana and Josiah Hill of Westfield.

Vicky was preceded in death by stillborn son, Jason Thompson, in 1972; her father Carl in 1964; her brother Carl (Skip) in 1999; her mother Pauline in 2005; and both husbands.
