ANDERSON- At the request of Sheriff John Beemon, the Indiana State Police have been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred last night, June 1, 2024.

The incident happened outside an Anderson residence at 1609 Fairview Street.

The information that follows in the investigation is preliminary and ongoing.  Just after 9:00 p.m., Madison County Deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the request of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

When officers arrived, they encountered the male subject in the driver’s seat of a white Chevrolet Impala parked in the driveway.  Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by giving multiple verbal commands for the man to show his hands and exit the vehicle.

The individual refused to comply with the officer’s commands. During the encounter, a shooting occurred, resulting in the injury of the male subject.  The investigation has determined one officer fired from his department-issued weapon.  Officers at the scene immediately began securing the scene and rendering life-saving aid to the man. A few moments later, medical personnel determined he was deceased.

The Madison County Coroner identified the man as Lataurus Ladon Harrison, 44, of Indianapolis.

No officers sustained any injuries during the encounter.

Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene.  During the forensic processing of the vehicle, Crime Scene Investigators located a firearm within reach of the subject on the front passenger seat. Investigators are reviewing body-worn camera footage captured by officers on the scene.  The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing. At this time, detectives are not releasing any more information about this investigation.

Officials have notified Harrison’s family about the incident.  The identity of the officer involved in the shooting is also being withheld at this time and will be released in the following days.
