Male attempts to steal a tractor after abandoning a stolen vehicle

MCCORDSVILLE – A McCordsville man was arrested Friday, May 31, after attempting to steal a tractor in Columbus.

At 6:52 p.m., Central dispatch received a 911 call about a male who had stolen a tractor near the intersection of West Lowell Road and North County Road 250 West and then drove it several hundred yards into a field before being caught by the tractor owner.

The male suspect, 20-year-old Derrick Jordan, fled the area on foot. Deputies later located him urinating in a roadway.

During a search of Jordan, a vehicle key belonging to a Lexus passenger car and multiple vehicle registration cards belonging to a Lexus were found in Jordan’s pocket.

A BMV check on the Lexus vehicle information found that the vehicle had been reported stolen in McCordsville. Deputies later located the stolen Lexus at a nearby interstate rest stop.

Jordan was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, public indecency, and resisting arrest.
