A deputy spots a wanted male who threw a quarter pound of meth from a vehicle window

SEYMOUR – Two Seymour men were arrested after police seized more than a quarter pound of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Sunday.

According to Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy spotted a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling northbound on State Road 135 South whose registered owner, 23-year-old Cory Cowles, had an active warrant for his arrest for a felony probation violation.

The deputy attempted to stop Cowles, but the Trailblazer continued traveling north slowly and didn’t immediately stop.

According to police, the deputy saw items being thrown out of the passenger window.

The vehicle stopped on State Road 135 near First Street.

Cowles and 36-year-old Jose Sanchez Ortiz, a passenger, were ordered out of the vehicle.

According to police, a K9 responded to the scene and signaled to deputies that the vehicle had narcotics inside. A small amount of methamphetamine was located in the floorboard.

Police searched the area where items were thrown from the vehicle and found a large bag of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.

Cowles and Sanchez Ortiz were both arrested on charges of dealing and possession of meth, obstruction of justice, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Cowles was also charged on a felony probation violation warrant. Sanchez Ortiz was also wanted on a misdemeanor warrant.
