Commissioners address security issues at Courthouse Plaza

BEDFORD— The Lawrence County Commissioners signed a contract with Hicom Inc. to fix the security doors at Superior Court I at Courthouse Plaza.

The cost of the repairs will be $31,125.60. The commissioners approved the repairs because they were an emergency issue and will be paid for with ARP funds.

Lawrence County Superior Court I Judge John Plummer III is concerned about the doors presenting a security issue. The electronic door is malfunctioning due to an electrical problem in the control panel.

The work will begin immediately.

The commissioners also approved Hicom to address the security issues at the Lawrence County Public Defender’s Office.

Currently, entrances to the office are locked doors using a key, which needs to be changed according to the recommendations of the Indiana Supreme Court Security. The keys need to be replaced with fobs.

The commissioners voted to pay HICOM $4,397.30 to install the system. The project will be paid for using building and maintenance funds, allowing the county to be reimbursed.
