Dorothy Louise (King) Coulter Kirk, 85, of Mitchell, went to her eternal home on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Cedar Creek of Bedford.
Born November 5, 1938, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Lawrence H. and Clara V. (Burton) King. She married Royston “Tad” Coulter on December 31, 1957, and he preceded her in death on September 21, 1998. She then married Larry Kirk on February 28, 2002, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2011.
Dorothy graduated from Mitchell High School in 1957 and worked as a teacher’s aide at Hatfield and Burris Elementary Schools. She attended Spice Valley Baptist Church for many years and The Bride of Christ Fellowship. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Dorothy loved being with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Shanna Lynn Freeman of Mitchell; grandchildren Adam (Alli) Coulter, Sarah (Geoffrey) McNulty, Ashley Freeman, Eric (Taylor) Freeman, and Cameron (Samantha) Coulter; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Hugh King of Oolitic, RoseMary Haycox of Vine Grove, Kentucky, and Janet (Fred) Hickman of Hardinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husbands; children, Kevin Lee “Butch” Coulter, Steven Lawrence Coulter, and Rastonna “Rusti” Coulter; brother, Harrison King; and infant brother, Jimmy, preceded her in death.
Per Dorothy’s request, the graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Mitchell Cemetery with Reverend Roger Allen officiating.
