Obituary: Muriel Roberts

January 4, 1935 – June 10, 2024

Georgia Muriel Roberts of Harrodsburg left to be in Heaven with her beloved Paul on June 10, 2024, at the age of 89.

Muriel was born on January 4, 1935, in Burns City, Indiana. The oldest of five daughters was born to Sherman Floyd and Lora Mae (Sipes) Smoot. Muriel’s family moved to Harrodsburg in 1941 after being displaced from Burns City by NSWC Crane.

In Harrodsburg, she met Paul Emery Roberts, the only boy she ever liked and the only man she ever loved. Paul and Muriel were married on August 22, 1953, in the Harrodsburg Methodist Church parsonage. They established a happy home in Harrodsburg and remained together until Paul’s death on April 29, 2014.

Muriel was a dedicated volunteer at Harrodsburg Methodist Church for all her years in Harrodsburg, the famous “Lunch Money Lady” at Lakeview Elementary School for over 20 years. However, she was, first and foremost, an amazing wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved being at her home, whether cooking homemade beef and noodles, making her windows shine, pitching baseballs for neighborhood kids, mowing on her Snapper Comet in a bikini, or brewing her famous sweet tea for family and friends.

Muriel is waiting in Heaven for two daughters and their husbands, Natalie and Jr. Blondell of Bedford and Anisha and Rick Titus of Columbus, three grandchildren, Alex Robbins and fiancée Ashlee Stephens of Brownsburg, and Drake Hendershot and Lynna Hendershot of Columbus, and one great-granddaughter, Ainsley Robbins. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Coy Blondell, Cassidy Kirk, Abby Titus, and Emily Titus, two sisters, Joyce Meador and Carmen Schaffer, an honorary daughter, Nanette Dorsett, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to Paul, Mae, and Sherman, Muriel was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Baker and June Ingram.

The family will receive visitors at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, on Thursday, June 13th, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Harrodsburg Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 14th, with Pastor Matt Hinshaw and Pastor Rob Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
