BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence coach Jeff Callahan’s career will complete the circle of life when he coaches the South All-Stars in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 49th annual North-South All-Star series.
Callahan, who announced his retirement prior to the 2024 season, played for the South All-Stars in 1987. Now he has the chance to cap his long career with a victory when the state’s best convene at Huntington University for the three-game series on June 22-23.
“It is quite an honor,” Callahan said. “I played in the game and it was an honor as an athlete. Now it’s kind of full circle as I wrap up my coaching career.”
The South squad will include several players BNL faced during the regular season, including Jennings County’s Austin Byford and Bloomington South’s Lucas Waldon. Mooresville coach Eric McGaha and Forest Park’s Jarred Howard will serve as assistant coaches.
“It’s a loaded team,” Callahan said. “There are a lot of good kids, well deserving, that didn’t make it. Indiana has a lot of good baseball players, and the level of baseball in the South is a lot better than it used to be. I’m excited to work with the other coaches and players on the team. Hopefully we can win the series.”
The series will feature a doubleheader on June 22 and a single game (with players using wooden bats) on June 23.
