MITCHELL – Mitchell 2024 graduate Dawson Irwin signed Greenville University and is officially a Panther on Tuesday, June 11, at Mitchell High School. His close friends and family gathered to join him.
Before officially signing, Dawson spoke to his loved ones, “Before I do this, I want to thank everyone who helped me get to this point. I will continue my academic and athletic career at Greenville University.”
He then took to the stage to officially sign with Greenville University and begin the new chapter of his life as a Panther.
Dawson is the son of Jessica Meadows and Dane Irwin. His mother commented to WBIW, “I’m super proud of Dawson. I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes when he becomes a Greenville Panther, and I hope that he has the best time. I’m really looking forward to the signing tonight.”
In his athletic career at Mitchell, Dawson averaged 10 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and hit 34, 3-pointers on the season.
His nana, Melanie Meadows, also gave remarks. “I just want to say that I am absolutely proud of this kid. This kid has had a basketball in his hand since he was probably three years old, so this has definitely come to fruition. I just want to say I’m really proud of him.”
Dawson expressed sincere gratitude in his comment: “I just want to thank everyone for their continued support during my time at Mitchell. It wasn’t an easy transition, but I’m very grateful to all my coaches and teammates for making college basketball a reality for me.”
Dawson plans to study finance and will play basketball for Division III Greenville University beginning in the fall semester of 2024.
