CLARK CO. – Troopers and crash reconstruction investigators from the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a New Albany man.
Around 11:00 Tuesday night, police and emergency personnel responded to an injury crash on I-65 northbound near the three-mile marker just north of the Eastern Boulevard overpass. Once on the scene, officers discovered the driver of a Kawasaki motorcycle had been thrown from his bike onto the roadway. Medical personnel performed life-saving measures on the driver, who was rushed to University Hospital in Louisville.
Sellersburg Post crash scene reconstruction officers responded to investigate and assist troopers already at the scene. After the preliminary investigation, which included witness statements and reconstruction of the crash scene, officers believe the 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-65 at extremely high speeds and had passed several vehicles after crossing the Lincoln Bridge. As the bike continued north, it collided with the rear of a silver 2016 Yukon SUV traveling northbound at the posted speed limit. The collision threw the operator off the motorcycle and traveled off the right side of the roadway before striking a parked semi-tractor with a trailer. None of the occupants in the Yukon were injured, and the Yukon driver pulled to the side of the interstate.
Officers identified the motorcycle operator as 25-year-old Mason Tyler Brown of New Albany, Indiana. Tragically, Mason Brown succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.
This crash is still under investigation.
