Spreen named BNL’s female Athlete of the Year

BEDFORD – Chloe Spreen, Indiana’s Miss Basketball, was named Bedford North Lawrence’s female Athlete of the Year by the WBIW.com website.

Spreen, the program’s third Miss Basketball, averaged 20.9 points and 6.9 rebounds while leading the Stars to a 20-5 record and the 13th consecutive Class 4A sectional title. She finished second on the school’s career scoring list with 1,869 points and earned All-State status.

Spreen, on her way to play for Alabama, also powered Indiana to a sweep of the two-game All-Star series with Kentucky. She scored 12 points during a 90-79 win in Lexington, then totaled a team-high 16 points as the Hoosiers prevailed 66-64 during the rematch in Indianapolis.

Softball star Ava Ratliff earned special Honorable Mention status. She set the state career record for home runs (57) and hit .482 with 14 homers and 35 RBIs for the Stars. Ratliff, a junior catcher who has committed to South Carolina, was named All-State.

Other notable athletes who enjoyed outstanding seasons included Madisyn Bailey (basketball), Chloe McFaddin (golf), Kenley Craig (golf and tennis), Kinleigh Root (golf), Britta Warren (soccer and softball), Izzy Alldredge (tennis), Paige Voigtschild (track), Elise Williams (cross country), Aliza Jewell (softball), Kendall Graves (softball), Tori Nikirk (softball and basketball), and Sammie Gratzer (volleyball).
