Man injured after his motorcycle strikes a deer

WASHINGTON CO. – On Tuesday, June 11, at approximately 7:02 p.m., Washington County Deputies and emergency response personnel were dispatched to 4672 Hardinsburg Livonia Road after a report of a motorcycle accident involving a deer.

Investigators at the scene determined that Roy Rutherford, 53, of Orleans, was traveling south on Hardinsburg Livonia Road on a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a deer that was attempting to cross the roadway.

Rutherford was not ejected from the motorcycle and was able to come to a complete stop but sustained injuries. Rutherford was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Rutherford was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital by AirMethods for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputy Hailee Lopotosky is the investigating officer and was assisted by Lt. Wayne Blevins, the Washington County Ambulance Service, and the Livonia Volunteer Fire Department members.
