BEDFORD – Kline Woodward, a three-sport standout as a senior, was named Bedford North Lawrence’s male Athlete of the Year by the WBIW.com website.
Woodward earned All-Hoosier Hills Conference honors in football as a two-way starter at linebacker and offensive line, totaling 82 tackles and averaging 44.5 yards per kick as a punter as BNL went 7-4. In baseball, Woodward was named to the HHC First Team while hitting .412 with 2 home runs and a team-high 32 RBIs. He also went 5-3 on the mound with a 2.29 ERA while striking out 56 in 45 2/3 innings.
Woodward, who has signed to play baseball with Lincoln Trail College, added a third sport as he played a reserve role on the basketball court.
Maddox Ray earned special Honorable Mention status. Ray was All-HHC in football, totaling 62 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 blocked punts. He was a starting guard in basketball, averaging 1.8 points per game, and he was a starting shortstop in baseball, hitting .330 with 17 RBIs.
Other notable athletes who enjoyed outstanding seasons included Patric Matson (basketball), Noah Godlevske (basketball), Memphis Louden (football), Cal Gates (football and baseball), Brayden Baker (football), Jonah Bailey (cross country and track), Grant Beyers (soccer), Isaiah Eicle (swimming), Garrett Gabhart (swimming), Jorj Filler (wrestling) and Ethan Stancombe (wrestling).
WBIW.com named Chloe Spreen the female Athlete of the Year. The list of the Top 10 stories of the 2023-24 school year will also be announced.
