BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Grant Beyers loves competition. He will get a chance to prove how good he can be when he joins a strong NAIA program at the next level.
Beyers officially signed with Indiana Tech on Friday. The Warriors (located in Fort Wayne) have won five consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference titles, and last season they advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight in the national tournament before falling to Oklahoma Wesleyan in penalty kicks.
After a standout senior season with the Stars, scoring 10 goals and earning All-Hoosier Hills Conference honors, Beyers looks forward to the challenge of the college game. Indiana Tech will feature a new head coach (Keelan Barker).
“There are big things coming,” Beyers said. “I have to step up my game.,
“I fell in love with the school and campus, the department head really catered to my schedule with classes, with what I see myself doing in the future, and the coaching staff is what I was looking for. I’ve always liked playing against bigger, taller, stronger kids, seeing what I could do.”
Beyers plans to major in exercise science and business administration, and his future could include a return to BNL to give back to the next generation.
“I want to come back to help cater to the athletes,” Barker said. “I want to help make sure they have a route I might not have had when I was a student, give them different avenues and opportunities.”
Indiana Tech went 14-4-6 last season.
