BEDFORD- Livestock shows are a big part of the 4-H program. Cattle, sheep, swine, and goats are the big four that are judged, and there is a science behind the grading of the animals.
Livestock judges always look for and analyze the good and bad characteristics of each animal in the major areas such as frame size, volume, condition, muscling, balance, structural correctness, movement, and breed character. They learn to study the animals carefully.
The Lawrence County Purdue Extension is hosting an event on what to expect from the judging process to better prepare for upcoming livestock events. The program will be Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at 924 16th Street in Bedford.
