OOLITIC—Ryan Duckett was appointed the new Oolitic Town Marshal on June 12. He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, professionalism, and work ethic that will benefit the department and community of Oolitic.
Duckett is a veteran of both the Army and Air Force. He spent 12 years in the infantry with the army and had many responsibilities and assignments, too many to begin to list. After leaving the Army in 2020 and joining the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve deputy, and serving in Mitchell as Assistant Chief, the call to serve was too strong, and he enlisted into the Air Force as part of the security forces. “I love the Army and the Air Force, almost like a first and second marriage,” he joked. In July, he will attend NCO training in Texas, which “will be a great leadership course.”
What is he looking forward to most in his new role? “Moving the department forward. We have gotten a lot done in the last six months, but we have a lot to do.” He added that the department is taking applications for a new officer position. Adding more police presence keeps the community safer, which is the department’s overall goal. “We want to continue modernizing the department and keep moving in the direction we have been,” he added.
Congratulations, Town Marshal Duckett. Here’s to a long, safe, and fruitful career protecting the citizens of Oolitic.
