BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Sunday for drunk driving after she fled the scene of an accident.
Bedford Police officers arrested 30-year-old Alison Rosson on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent, and leaving the scene on a property damage accident.
According to Bedford Police Officer Jarrett Tedrow, on Sunday at 6:27 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Marshall Drive and State Road 450 after a report of a single-vehicle car accident. Police were told the driver fled the scene and left behind debris on the road.
Officer Tedrow said when he arrived, he found a vehicle had struck and destroyed a traffic sign, and numerous parts belonging to a white vehicle were scattered along the shoulder of State Road 450.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Carter arrived and the two officers went to a home in the 5000 block of Williams Road. As police drove by the address they spotted a white Toyota Corolla parked near the roadway with substantial damage to the front end.
Police found Rosson standing outside of the vehicle.
When asked why she did not stop at the scene of the crash she told police she didn’t know.
Police say Rosson smelled of alcohol, but she denied she had been drinking.
She was asked for her driver’s license and registration and was shaky and had poor dexterity.
She submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.211 percent.
She was detained. She told police she had consumed alcohol prior to driving to Arby’s to pick up food.
She consented to a certified chemical test and was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood test. She was also treated and cleared medically after being involved in an accident.
She was then transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing. There, she told police that after the crash, she got out of her car to inspect the damage and then drove home.
She told police that prior to the crash she had drank a wine cooler and two shots of vodka.
She was then transported to jail.
Jackson’s Heavy Haul towed the vehicle.
