INDIANA— Daviess and Orange Counties were two of the five sites announced during Tuesday’s dedication ceremony for a newly built training site in Wabash.
The Daviess County site will be in Washington Township. The Orange County site will be in Paoli.
This is part of Gov. Holcomb’s 2023 Next Level Agenda. $17.7 million was allocated to firefighters for new training facilities and protective gear for volunteer stations across Indiana.
Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones says training centers like this are few and far between in Indiana, putting community safety at risk.
This investment is the first time the legislature has dedicated funds to firefighters in Indiana history.
Other training sites coming include Chrisney in Spencer County, Hartford City in Blackford County, and Rushville in Rush County.
One of the four phase-one locations announced in 2023 is under construction in Linton in Greene County.
