BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington, in partnership with the Bloomington Arts Commission, seeks public feedback on Hopewell Commons 1 Percent for the Arts Installation proposals. The Commission will use the public’s feedback to help select which artwork will be installed in Hopewell Commons.
The public may view the four proposed art installations and provide feedback on this webpage from Monday, June 24 – Friday, July 5.
In March 2024, a Request for Artist Qualifications seeking artists and artist groups interested in creating a signature artwork at Hopewell Commons was issued. The Arts Commission invited the four most qualified applicants to submit proposals for the Hopewell Commons art installation.
A selection committee including members of the Bloomington Arts Commission, City of Bloomington staff, and community stakeholders will review the four finalists’ proposals based on artistic quality, ability to reflect the welcoming and communal nature of the Commons, and feasibility of installation, along with public feedback. The Commission plans to select the artwork for installation by the end of July 2024. The work installation is tentatively scheduled to take place in Fall 2024.
The budget for the project is $100,000. Funding comes from the City of Bloomington’s 1% for the Arts Ordinance, which states that specific city capital projects shall include an amount not less than one percent of the city’s contribution to the estimated construction costs of the project for public art.
