BEDFORD – The water main break on 16th Street caused undetermined damage to the road.
City officials have met with INDOT and are working to proceed with a joint approach to fixing the damage.
The City of Bedford and the Redevelopment Commission passed an emergency resolution on Tuesday, June 18, declaring an emergency and authorizing a public works project to repair 16th Street and install a new water main.
The Redevelopment Commission allocated funds to fund this project, which involves INDOT assessing the road and using the contractor currently still under contract for the roadway assessment, reconstruction, and ADA sidewalks. The contractor is secured to retire the current 12-inch line and 4-inch line and install a new 12-inch line with lateral services to be connected to the new 12-inch main.
“Unfortunately, a timeline cannot be established until we get the roadway exposed due to the uncertainty,” said Utilities Director Misty Adams, “However, INDOT and the City are working diligently to complete this project and hope to see movement on site early this week. If there is a way to have limited lanes open, INDOT is considering that.”
