INDIANA – A Heat Advisory is in effect from Noon until 8:00 p.m. for portions of southern Indiana and Illinois.
The heat index values of up to 105 are expected.
This morning, temperatures will start in the low to mid-70s as the southerly winds dominate. Highs will soar into the mid to upper 90s under partly sunny skies. Humidity levels will increase, making it feel like the triple digits.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat related illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and avoid the sun. Also, check on relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to the evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The signs of heat exhaustion include:
- tiredness
- dizziness
- headache
- feeling sick or being sick
- excessive sweating and skin becoming pale and clammy or getting a heat rash, but a change in skin color can be harder to see on brown and black skin
- cramps in the arms, legs, and stomach
- fast breathing or heartbeat
- a high temperature
- being very thirsty
- weakness
The symptoms of heat exhaustion are often the same in adults and children, although children may also become irritable.
Tonight, showers will move through the Tri-State late this afternoon and into the evening. Some of those could bring a strong wind gust or heavy downpour. Chances will continue overnight and into Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will fall into the mid-70s.
